Beacon Hills AU

WELCOME TO BEACON HILLS

Beacon Hills is a small town in the Northern part of California. It was once a thriving town that has fallen into disrepair. It is also, currently, the scene of a supernatural battle that has only just begun.

This is an AU Beacon Hills set during season 1 at this time. What's the same? Most things in this verse are set in Beacon Hills. All of the events up until the first episode are the same except one thing. It was Laura who was left a charred mess in the basement after trying to save her family, and Peter that took Derek from Beacon Hills before they were found by the hunters.

Now, six years later, things are going dark in the town. Someone has been killing people, and the power of the family is in turmoil.

Laura is pretty much where Peter was. Angry. Violent. Looking to take revenge on those that took her life from her. What do we already know about this verse?

* Peter and Derek were alive when Laura woke up
* Kate still seduced Derek to get the information about the pack
* Laura, in seeking to restart her pack, has bitten both Scott... and Stiles
* Laura is the Hale alpha

Is Peter alive or dead? We don't know. Maybe Laura has been alpha this whole time, alive but unable to act on it. Is Cora in South America? Maybe. This is pretty open right now. If interested, let me know.

She settled back on her heels, still kneeling over him. Her entire demeanor had changed, and she stared down at him with wuth mixed emotions, none of them clear. They were muddied, just like everything in her mind. Yet she was fighting it, trying to keep herself settled as best she could.

"I know. I'm so glad. I thought Peter would come, that I would have to get him to bring you to me but you came. You knew and you came," she said, sighing. "I'm so glad you came home."

"No, I didn't tell my mom! What was I going to tell her?" Really, Stiles? "And she was like all cryptic and stuff. And she said she was going to find me."

He hears her and he jumps, his head snapping up because she was here and he was in the shower and, well, naked.

"What's happening to me? What did you do?"

It wasn't as if she didn't know nudity. She's seen it before. Not his, but that doesn't bother her too much by the way she's just standing there.

"I did what I could for you. I've given you strength, and the ability to be the lacrosse player you want to be. You'll learn control, Scott. You will learn to be all you can be."

"I always... always planned to." He reached up to rub at his throat now that she was not actively trying to hurt him. "How long have you... been awake?"

"That bus driver wasn't one of ours." Chris exhaled a breath and looked up at her. "Kate...Kate takes after my father. I realized that years ago but I'm not exactly someone they listen to.

And after Victoria died..." He rubbed a hand over his eyes before dropping his hands back to his side.

"We're not going to agree on this even if I understand why you're doing it and I don't want to end up hunting you, Laura, I really don't.

But if you keep killing humans who aren't involved in this world, even if they helped my sister one time, I'm going to have to step in. Kate can handle herself, and hunters know the risks. I know the risks of taking on your kind, especially an alpha." quietly.

"For now though, let's stop arguing. This is getting us nowhere."

He feels proud of that look just a tiny bit. It makes him feel like he's accomplished something. And hell, her critique of the boys on the lacrosse team is fair enough, really the only decent guy on there is Danny and he's good but he's not drawing any attention to one of the only truly visible out and proud guys at Beacon High. That would not be buddies at all (and wow he needs to stop mainlining Due South before bed, really he does).

So he gets that, the aggression and the enhanced everything which explains a lot about Scotty and his behavior recently. Gives him some idea about how to handle him. Maybe even teach him a little bit more control.

"Your fire? I mean the Hale House Fire, yeah, I remember it." It was a couple of years after his mom died and one of the things that really kind of helped his dad be his dad again. "So you're telling me that hunters did that? To your family?"

And that makes a little more suspicious of why she's back in town.

"The weird lady who bit you said that? And hell, I would have totally have told your mom if I had gotten bit or hurt - her yelling at me for being a dumb teenager would be less bad than her finding out that I hid an injury like this."

Stiles gave his bro a look. "So move your hands and lemme see, dude. You might get rabies or sepsis or something actually bad, okay?"

She wants him to feel pride. It helped people come along to what he wanted, and it wasn't as if she was lying about her desires for wanting him. He was a much different man than many in this town, so much like the sides of Peter that she would love to have back, but having the older man in the pack, she didn't think it would do much to help her place as Alpha.

"Yes, the Hale fire. I've found links to those that covered up the truth. I can tell you having been there, they locked the doors, barred us in, and burned the place up. Everyone alive, human children, nearly the entire pack. They stood outside and listened as we begged for our lives, Stiles. They laughed as we died."

He thought about the things he and Stiles had talked about. "Did you turn me into a werewolf?"

Just putting that out there. Please laugh and say he's crazy.

"Yeah, but then you get to go home and not have to listen to her lecture you for another eight days over dinner."

He sighed and moved his arm to let Stiles look. "Just, be careful. I don't... can you get rabies from a person biting you?"

She leaned down, kissing his cheek as if to make it better. "Yet you only came when I made it obvious I was here. Why did it take so long?" She asked, arching a brow. "It's been months, Derek. You would know that if you'd come to visit."

A brow arched at that. "I merely gave you the means to do so," she said, not saying it directly but certainly not laughing either.

"I suppose we'll know for sure come the full moon, hmmm?"

"He was involved. It was more than just hunters that covered it up, Chris. They lied. They coverd up the deaths of children. They can't be allowed to be forgiven for that, or for it to be ignored," she said, not willing to back down on that.

It was painful, but she couldn't deny her was right. "No, we aren't, and you don't want to make that mistake either, Chris." Because hunting her where her mind and heart were was a deadly proposition.

Her gaze was steady, just watching him. "You aren't the law, Chris, and you didn't step in while they were killers. Why is someone stopping them, making them pay so bad but their crimes were ignored?"

She wasn't arguining, not in her mind. She was speaking the truth.

"I wasn't even in town when the fire happened, Laura. While I may have suspected hunter involvement, I was on the other side of the country and Kate was my father's heir.

Who would have listened to me, and you know crimes can't be prosecuted without an admission of guilt or proof. The guy who's sheriff now? He's not the same one who was in office when the fire happened.

So find your proof and take it to him. Leave Kate out of it if you want since she was the mastermind.

She knows what she's up against."

"It's still been six years, and everyone was willing to ignore it. Forever. Even you," she said, hating how much that left her feeling hurt and broken a little bit more. Anyone she might have thought would be there in the end, and he hadn't been. She didn't even blame him, but that didn't make it hurt less.

"They all knew, Chris. They knew and they know. Now they know the result of murder. It comes back to you,' she said. "And I won't leave my town and my pack weak again. I was blind before. My mother was blind. We thought we could actually live in peace and be left alone. I know better now."

She suddenly smiled. "But hey, you said you didn't want to deal with the reality of it all, right? You came back here to kill an alpha and now you're unsure so, what should we talk about? How's Allison? She's doing well?"

"I didn't come back here to kill anyone." Not without proof and at the moment? It's not as black and white as it seems. Shades of gray were something he'd been working on since he'd walked away and this?

This fell into that. He couldn't blame her for her actions, for the revenge she felt she needed, given the cause of it and he rubbed a hand over his eyes.

"I'm here to investigate, not hunt. I gave that up, remember. And I didn't forget the fire, Laura. I visited you...every chance I got. It was a tragedy, a loss of life that never should have happened.

Maybe if I'd stayed, I could have stopped it, figured something out, I don't know, but I can't agree with your choices either.

I will at least not interfere." quietly. "That much I can do. I can look into it and let things proceed as they will. Nobody has any idea who's behind this, yet.

As for Allison, she's fine. She's living in New York, taking college classes. I don't think she's picked a major yet."

Truth was, she didn't believe that. He believed an alpha was out of control, and she suspected even in Chris' mind that meant putting them down. "Harmless" wolves were one thing. A killer was another.

"What did you expect to find then, Chris? A killer alpha and you were going to walk away?" She wanted to know what was going on, what he was going to do. She needed to know, for her sake and the sake of her pack.

"I remember you there. Once. Before that I didn't have a lot of memories, but I read the books. I know who came... and who didn't." And he had been there. Often. "I do... I'm glad you came, Chris. You're the only one that did," she admitted, knowing what that might say to him, to someone that knew a pack and how it should work. "Though, I'm not asking for you to agree. I'm doing what I need to, Chris."

She smiled then, true and honest. "I'm glad for her. She's so amazing. She always was."

"That's two weeks from now." Captain obvious.

"I'm aware," she said, giving him a sharp look. "It gives you time to work on your senses, to see where you stand. I admit, you looked amazing out there, Scott. Didn't it feel good?"

He shook his head, "Give me the information, let me give it to my dad, have him reopen the case. We can do it the legal way, then." And if they get off, then Stiles will arrange for non traceable poisons, Laura. Do it the smart way.

Because he's already thinking of himself as part of the pack. Already thinking of himself as one of them.

"a normal person, no. a werewolf, I don't know. It's not like that comes up often!"

And he will be careful. He's always careful with injuries.

"What information? That I know a hunter burned out a family of werewolves, and stood there and laughed? That the bus driver, former insurance adjuster, hid it? How about the part where I know it, but I can't give him any proof he'll take to court? No. They killed my family. These are my lands. I will make it safe for my pack, Stiles. For you and Scott and for everything that should have been here," he said, meaning it. More emotions than she'd shown to anyone yet.

"I can't just pretend, Stiles. I can't let them let her go. I ... I spent six years listening to them scream, Stiles. I still hear them. Every moment of every day. What would you do in my place?"

Actually, she likely shouldn't have opened the e-mail, but curiosity had gotten the better of her and as she scanned the lines, her first thought was to call her father, and she likely should have.

But he'd always avoided the subject whenever she asked about Kate and now getting an e-mail referencing her immiment arrival where she knew Chris was?

Not exactly something she could look past, and having a break starting at the end of the week? Perfect time for a trip.

She closed the e-mail and made the arrangements. She had a month before she had to register for classes anyway, and getting away from the snow sounded really good.

Three days later, her plane was landing and there was a rental car waiting for her at the airport to make the drive.

When she arrived, though, her first stop was the motel she'd gotten a room at before she went to get food and start taking a look around, specifically at the scenes she'd seen mentioned in the articles.

And the Hale house. She'd read up on that while she was looking into things.

"I wasn't sure if it was a trap. I heard that the Argents had moved back."

Why he hadn't visited was more complicated. A little bit school, a little bit staying hidden. "It's harder for me to avoid trouble from hunters."
