But that was the trap. They all had lives they were born into, and so often having no choice in living with them, or staying with them. Like Laura when she had refused to go with Chris and Allison. She had chosen her family and her pack, and this was what she was left with, all she had left.

For a long time she just stared at him, not even sure how to tell him this, what to say to him. She wanted to say a million things, and nothing she could tell him would give him what he wanted.
"And if I had left, there would be another of my family dead. It would have been Peter down there, or Derek. Would that make it better? Would you ignore the town now if I was with you in New York?"
She laughed, the sound bitter. "What I want? I wasn't given that choice, Chris. All I was given was death and pain and years of healing myself one cell at a time. My family needs me. My pack needs me, Chris. I have to make this a world they can live in, without my family's killer hunting them down as well."
