WELCOME TO BEACON HILLS

Beacon Hills is a small town in the Northern part of California. It was once a thriving town that has fallen into disrepair. It is also, currently, the scene of a supernatural battle that has only just begun.

This is an AU Beacon Hills set during season 1 at this time. What's the same? Most things in this verse are set in Beacon Hills. All of the events up until the first episode are the same except one thing. It was Laura who was left a charred mess in the basement after trying to save her family, and Peter that took Derek from Beacon Hills before they were found by the hunters.

Now, six years later, things are going dark in the town. Someone has been killing people, and the power of the family is in turmoil.

Laura is pretty much where Peter was. Angry. Violent. Looking to take revenge on those that took her life from her. What do we already know about this verse?

* Peter and Derek were alive when Laura woke up
* Kate still seduced Derek to get the information about the pack
* Laura, in seeking to restart her pack, has bitten both Scott... and Stiles
* Laura is the Hale alpha

Is Peter alive or dead? We don't know. Maybe Laura has been alpha this whole time, alive but unable to act on it. Is Cora in South America? Maybe. This is pretty open right now. If interested, let me know.

"From... from hunters." He felt blood on his mouth with each punch, and he kept trying to get free but her grip was too strong. "If we stayed... came back... they would kill you. You were a sitting duck..."

Keeping her hand on his throat, she leaned in closer, staring at him with puppy dog eyes. Her fingers brushed the corner of his mouth, smearing the blood on his skin.

"Derek, I don't want to hurt you," she whispered, even with the way she was holding him. "I need you. Please. Please, don't leave me again. We need you, Derek. I need you," she whispered, eyes bright and her lashes damp. "I need my brother, my beta."

Derek looked at her, and there was fear in his eyes. If she wanted her brother scared of her, she had accomplished that goal. But he had been with Peter for the last few years, and his cunning side had rubbed off. Derek couldn't leave. He needed to watch her, see what she was doing, and figure out how to fix this before Laura really fell too far that he wouldn't be able to save her.

"Okay."

A brow arched then, still staring down into her brother's eyes. "Really? Just like that? You'll be mine?" She sounded caught between excited and confused.

Her fingers stroked along his cheek. "I need you, Derek. I need my brother with me. I missed you," she said, voice so soft, eyes bright with tears.

He nods, because he hopes that he knows what he's doing. Someone has to watch over her to make sure she doesn't get these betas she's turned killed.

"I missed you too. Every day."

"He kept you away, I bet," she said, sounding hurt and pained. "Damned ego of his. You aren't like him though, are you?"

Even though she knew he had been. Derek had been a lot like Peter back then. She needed him to be with her, not against her. Family again.

"I'm sorry I hurt you," she said, leaning down to kiss his brow. "I just... It hurt so much, Derek. All that time alone and then thinking you would leave again. I can't live with that," she said, binding him as deeply as she could with her words.

Derek wasn't sure how to answer that because in some ways, he was very much like Peter. But not completely. The differences were hidden still deep inside where he couldn't let himself get hurt again. And he had a feeling this was going to lead to him being hurt, so he would be careful showing it. Cautious. Calculating. how to wear a smile and say the right things while taking in the world around him to figure out his advantage if things went south.

He just shook his head. This was his best move - for now. So he would stay. Only speak the truth so she wouldn't hear his heart jump, and figure out how to keep Laura from burning out and try to find the sister he remembered somewhere inside of her.

"I'm here now."

She settled back on her heels, still kneeling over him. Her entire demeanor had changed, and she stared down at him with wuth mixed emotions, none of them clear. They were muddied, just like everything in her mind. Yet she was fighting it, trying to keep herself settled as best she could.

"I know. I'm so glad. I thought Peter would come, that I would have to get him to bring you to me but you came. You knew and you came," she said, sighing. "I'm so glad you came home."

"I always... always planned to." He reached up to rub at his throat now that she was not actively trying to hurt him. "How long have you... been awake?"

She leaned down, kissing his cheek as if to make it better. "Yet you only came when I made it obvious I was here. Why did it take so long?" She asked, arching a brow. "It's been months, Derek. You would know that if you'd come to visit."

"I wasn't sure if it was a trap. I heard that the Argents had moved back."

Why he hadn't visited was more complicated. A little bit school, a little bit staying hidden. "It's harder for me to avoid trouble from hunters."

"They have," she said, tensing though, her eyes narrowing. "Well, one of them have," she added. "Not the one I'm looking for though," she added. "He's promising to bring me her, but I don't know if he will or not. We'll see," she said with a bright smile.

"Isn't it for us all? You have no idea."

"You're not a blue eye. Hunters aren't as forgiving with me."

"I am now, they just can't see," she murmured. "Derek, I didn't want you back here not to keep you safe. I promise. You're my family, my brother. Why would you think I wouldn't protect you?" She stroked his cheek. "I love you."

"I know you can, but not when you were in a coma. I had to protect you. Because I love you to, Laura."

"But I can protect you now. I won't let the hunters hurt you. I promise. I let them hurt this family once. Never again."

She said it so sincerely, meaning it even in her madness.

"Okay." And he was going to let it lay there, knowing she meant it. He wasn't sure if he liked the lengths he had a feeling Laura would go in that promise, but he knew to believe it.

She stroked his cheek, smiling tenderly at him. Almost like the girl she had been but likely never would have done this as if it were normal.

"And you're staying here? In town?" She wanted his word. "At least until the town and pack are safe?"

"Yeah, I'm staying." And somewhere along the way, Peter was going to get a very, very bitchy text message from his nephew with no details, but enough context to let him know that it wasn't good and to stay away.

"Good. I'm glad." She paused, frowning at him. "You're not staying at the house, are you?"

She was going to lecture him if he was.

"I just got into town. I don't have a set place to stay yet."

... yes, he was planning on staying at the house.

"Derek," she said his name with such disappointment. "You can do better than wallowing," said the woman who wallowed for six years and was now killing because of it. "Perhaps you should stay with Scott, or maybe Stiles."

Or eventually she might suggest one of the other betas in her personal army.

One of Derek's eyebrows rose. "I'm not going to stay with strange teenagers."

"And it's better to stay in a burned out home? You could stay with me then. I haved a place."

"I didn't say I was staying here," he said again, firmly. Thinking, yes. Saying, no. "I'll find a place of my own, thanks."
