WELCOME TO BEACON HILLS

Beacon Hills is a small town in the Northern part of California. It was once a thriving town that has fallen into disrepair. It is also, currently, the scene of a supernatural battle that has only just begun.

This is an AU Beacon Hills set during season 1 at this time. What's the same? Most things in this verse are set in Beacon Hills. All of the events up until the first episode are the same except one thing. It was Laura who was left a charred mess in the basement after trying to save her family, and Peter that took Derek from Beacon Hills before they were found by the hunters.

Now, six years later, things are going dark in the town. Someone has been killing people, and the power of the family is in turmoil.

Laura is pretty much where Peter was. Angry. Violent. Looking to take revenge on those that took her life from her. What do we already know about this verse?

Is Peter alive or dead? We don't know. Maybe Laura has been alpha this whole time, alive but unable to act on it. Is Cora in South America? Maybe. This is pretty open right now. If interested, let me know.

To be honest, he had been hoping it wasn't her. He had gone to the library first and looked up strange deaths and no... he didn't want to think his sister as being a killer.

But he turned quickly, his defenses up as he looked over at her. He was taller, stronger, and a lot more in control than the last time she had seen him. The playful teenager was gone, replaced by a very cautious, dour, and angry young man.

Too cautious, which was why he wasn't running to his sister for a happy reunion. He didn't answer right away, debating on how much to give away since Peter didn't know he was here.

Finally, he just had one thing to ask. "What have you done, Laura?"

She took a step closer though, not intimidated by how much he had changed. In fact she looked him with pride. "You've grown up so well, Derek. Better than I ever could have hoped with only Peter at your side," she said, smiling at him as she took another step closer.

"I want you to know, I don't blame you for not coming back sooner. It was safer for you not to be here. It still isn't entirely safe. They're still around," she said, shaking her head sadly. "But we're working to make it safer. With you here, it will be better."

Though she knew none of this was what he wanted to hear. "As for what I've done, I've worked to make the lands here safe again for the pack, Derek. I've worked to take care of those that murdered our family and took mom from us."

There was a tiny twitch in his eyes, a moment of fear because he had his own hand in it. Something Laura wouldn't know - only Peter, and even he didn't know the full story. The guilt was Derek's burden to bear, and he never spoke about it. About what he had shown Kate.

"You know Mom wouldn't have wanted this. She wouldn't want you to be a killer, Laura." He stayed still, his eyes just watching her carefully and tried to ignore the feeling that he may be the one being hunted in this moment. "Who's we?"

She thought that movement was about her, her actions. She made a soft sound, giving him a look that on another might have been puppy dog eyes. On her it was almost judgmental, as if saddened he couldn't see her truth.

"She didn't want most of our family to die in a fire either," she said, voice hardening. "She didn't want your alpha in a coma for six years, and our sister gone, and the life we knew destroyed because we let our guard down," she added, taking two more steps towards him.

"I had to start over for us, Derek. I couldn't count on Peter. He didn't even return with you," she noted, making a face. "Not surprising, but I knew you would come back for me one day. So I made sure you didn't come back to be alone."

"And she wouldn't want her children to become killers, Laura," he reiterated. But his eyes softened a bit because this was his sister, and he had missed her a lot.

"Peter doesn't know I'm here." Which was true, but he wasn't going to reveal Peter's status to her either.

"I've done what I had to, Derek. They burned our family alive. You weren't there. You didn't hear their screams. You didn't hear them begging to live, begging me to protect them. I couldn't," she said, spitting out the words. "You weren't there, Derek. I was. She was. She died there."

A brow arched at that. "Ran back home yourself. Why?"

That got him. He closed his eyes and looked away, not wanting to hear the details since it only fueled his own guilt more. Something she may even be able to smell since chemo-signals don't lie.

He took a deep breath, trying to push it back though. "Because I thought you were in danger." Which he was, in a way.

And yet she took it all wrong. "Derek, I told you. I don't blame you for not visiting, and I don't blame you for not being there. I'm glad you were," she said, moving again to close the distance between them. "I'm glad you didn't have to live through that."

"I am making sure there is no danger. I had thought it would bring Peter, and that he would bring you back to me."

"I haven't lived full time with Peter for three years now. I'm in school, down in Phoenix." Which should hopefully deter away from her asking about where Peter was or doing.

He took a deep breath. "You don't have to do this, Laura. Just come with me. Just leave this behind and we can start something new somewhere else."

"Really? I'm so glad to hear that. We'll have to make sure you get registered here then," she said, nodding as if that settled that.

"This is our home, Derek. Beacon Hills are our lands. I'm not leaving here. This is where the Hale pack belongs and where we'll stay. I don't want to stay new, I want to make those that killed my family answer for what they did. An alpha doesn't run with her tail between her legs."

Derek licked his lips, because he had been an omega for six years now and was used to making his choices and not having an alpha tell him what to do. Even if Peter tried to on more than on occasion.

"Laura... I'm not staying. I'm not going to help you kill people."

"That's not going to work," she said, shaking her head. "And you know it. You don't get to tell your alpha no, Derek. I'm still alpha. I have been for six years. Just because you thought it was okay to run away and ignore me and my pain for six years and pretend I did with everyone else isn't my fault, but you do not get to walk away from pack when I can actually speak. You snuck off like a damn snake before, Derek but that time is over. So I hope you enjoyed pretending you weren't a Hale, but you are, and you answer to your alpha."

She said it all plainly, matter of factly.

"I won't be sorry I didn't die with mom so you could turn your back on your family, Derek. A pity. I thought you were a better wolf than that."

"I didn't want to go, but in case you forgot, I was seventeen and Peter was my guardian. I had no choice. I lost my entire family that day, so don't you dare belittle the pain I was in, and I've never turned my back on my name."

There was a soft growl, the wolf in him rising to the bait. "But I'm not a killer, and if that's the kind of alpha you're going to be, I'll stay an omega."

"It's been six years, Derek. Six years I was left in a bed. Healing myself one bit at a time, one cell at a time. Constantly working against the burns, against the pain. And through it all, I listened to the screams in my head. I listened to your tiny niece beg me to save her. I begged whoever was outside that window to let them out. I told them I would take the fire, if they would save the children. Do you know what I heard, Derek? Laughter. They laughed. I can not let them do this to others, Derek."

Her eyes narrowed. "You turned your back on me, Derek. He hasn't been your guardian for yours. You said it. Three years on your own and you left me. You will not leave now," she growled, eyes glowing red. "You'll be my beta, Derek, as you are. You'll help me train Scott and Stiles. We will find the hunter behind it. All of them."

Scott and Stiles? Who the... oh crap she made more betas. That was what she was talking about earlier. No, no this wasn't good at all and he took a step back, his eyes flashing blue in response to her red ones.

Did she know about his eyes? Only Peter and his mother knew as far as Derek was aware, but if Talia had told Laura, he wouldn't be surprised.

"You need help, Laura. Not this. Killing them is only going to bring more and we'll always be fighting. I'm not going to be a part of that."

That return flash made her tsk, shaking her head. "Honestly, Derek. Your self righteousness is displaced all things considered. Motives mean so much and mine are about protecting others. What were yours," she taunted, moving suddenly until she was standing toe to toe with him.

"No, we won't be. We will prove that trying to take us on is futile. They caught us unaware once. That will not happen again,' she snarled, shoving him back against the door. "Never. Again."

Yeah, that was fear in his eyes, but he didn't cower. "I did it out of love to end her suffering," he replied. "And no, this will start a war. You know that."

"And I'm doing this out of love. Even for a family that deserted me," she said, snarling as she leaned in closer. "I know that you will never understand but you will remember what it means to be a Hale."

"I remember just fine. You're the one whose forgotten."

"New Alpha, new rules, Derek. We lived in peace, and people died. I won't spend my life running and neither will my pack. You included. You deserve a home and a life, Derek and that is what you will have."

Her hands gripped the front of his shirt."You turned your back on your family once, Derek. Don't make me feel angry rather than sad for you if you try and do it again."

"I have a life, Laura. A good life. You do this, you ruin that."

He stayed still, hoping to find a way to reason with her. "what are you going to do, Laura? Kill me if I try to leave? You need help. Let me find it for you."

"No, I give you back your family and pack. That was what we were meant to have, Derek, and you playing at normal doesn't make you one of them. It never will."

She rolled her eyes. "I need my pack. That's all the help I need. You get hurt in this, and it's on you. All on you, Derek. You disobeying your alpha. I'm being kind. Don't make me actually treat you like the misbehaving beta you are."

This was going to hurt, and he knew it. But he shook his head.

"I'm not your beta, Laura. And you hurting me isn't going to change that. I'm not going to kill for you."

"I never asked you to kill, Derek," she said, shaking her head. Then she back handed him as hard as she could. "I asked you to take your place as beta. Why would I trust you when you were never there for me?"

His head snapped to the side with the slap, and there was a snarl as he turned back slowly to look at her. "I'm not an idiot, Laura. I can read a newspaper. And I'm not going to have any part in that."

This would be around the time he pushed her back and away from him, moving away so that he wasn't backed against the wall, relaxing his pose.

He may have been away from Peter for three years while in college, but the three before that had been spent preparing Derek for the world and how to fight.

"I've always been there for you. You are my sister, and I love you, but this isn't you, Laura, and I'm not going to let you ruin what's left of this family."
