Beacon Hills AU

WELCOME TO BEACON HILLS

Beacon Hills is a small town in the Northern part of California. It was once a thriving town that has fallen into disrepair. It is also, currently, the scene of a supernatural battle that has only just begun.

This is an AU Beacon Hills set during season 1 at this time. What's the same? Most things in this verse are set in Beacon Hills. All of the events up until the first episode are the same except one thing. It was Laura who was left a charred mess in the basement after trying to save her family, and Peter that took Derek from Beacon Hills before they were found by the hunters.

Now, six years later, things are going dark in the town. Someone has been killing people, and the power of the family is in turmoil.

Laura is pretty much where Peter was. Angry. Violent. Looking to take revenge on those that took her life from her. What do we already know about this verse?

It had taken six long years for this moment. Moment by moment healing each and every cell in her body. The slow, painful reversal of time and age as it took its toll on her body. Somewhere out there, whatever remained of the Hale family had not returned, but that was fine by her. She was alpha. She was able to move once more. She was, in each and every night she snuck out, gathering more and more information about those that had helped the hunters, who had given them that accelerant that burned like napalm.

Now she needed the strength of pack behind her as well.

The woods felt good. The earthy loam beneath her feet, the scent of dirt and molding, dying things mixing with the nearly "green" smell of the plants that grew and flourished. Her abilities weren't as strong as they should have been but they were growing, becoming stronger with each day she spent sneaking out of the hospital under the watchful eye of a plain woman with a nursing degreee that had helped her hide the strength of her body and her nightly sojourns through Beacon Hills.

A new scent caught her attention. Warm, slightly spicy, with a hint of what she knew as fear. A smile curved her lips, loving how she smelled as she moved to follow the shadows, seeking him out.

If Stiles made him suck at tryouts tomorrow, Scott was going to... do something very damaging to his best friend. Because really - middle of the night in the rain in the woods was not fun. Not at all and NOT what he needed right now.

Especially since his Dad had found out they were in the woods and was having harsh words with Stiles. Which meant that Scott was now without a ride and was going to be walking home in the rain in the middle of the night.

As he walked, he found himself running out of breath and reached into his pocket for his inhaler. But he stopped when he thought he heard a twig break, looking over his shoulder to see what was out there.

Oh but that had been a bad step, Laura knew, though they way he jerked around to look was amusing. He'd come out here looking for a body and now he was going to risk becoming one. Not that she wanted that. Her desire was for him to live.

She wanted him to live, to prosper and be the sort of beta she needed for her new pack. Peter had deserted her and taken her brother with her. Eventually she would work to get Derek back, but for now, she would start on her own.

Creeping forward, circling around with a smile. He did smell good, she'd give him that.

One was a start. Two was on her way to having a pack. Three when she finally brought Derek in and Laura would be on her way to all she wanted now. A strong, powerful pack that would never have to fear hunters again. That meant securing beta number two.

Not that it was that hard. He'd actually been incredible helpful, though Laura suspected it wasn't his desire to do so. He was though following her as well, and while she might not be coddling McCall, she wasn't treating him like a wayward omega either.

"I know you're there, Stiles. I can smell you," she said, drawing out the words as she stopped by the sedan she'd been driving, turning to face the shadows.

Oh crap what was that?

That was a definite shadow moving. Shit. Shit shit shit Stiles Scott was so going to kill you if he gets jumped in the woods in the middle of the night.

"Listen, I seriously don't have any money or like, anything on me. And there's a lot of cops only a few feet away and I'll start screaming so um... yeah..."

And he's changing directions because getting yelled at by the Sheriff was higher on the my life is not in danger list than random stranger lurking in the shadows.

And so much for the info that he got off that website for how to make werewolves not smell you coming. His abstinence and rubbing the weird grass over him have failed him.

He'll have to write a nasty note to the webmaster about their clearly erroneous data. Other people might try it and fail too, clearly it's a public service he'll be doing.

"Okay, so that's something else off the checklist. What else can you do?"

"I don't think you're ready for those answers. Besides, all you've done is cover up your scent. I still know you, Stiles. It's all over Scott, for one," she pointed out, moving to lean against the trunk of the car. She crooked a finger at him.

"Now, come out here and talk to me," she said, folding her arms over her chest. "You and I need to have a talk."

"I'm not ready for those answers but we need to have a talk? What kind of talk? My dad already warned me about taking candy from strangers and the whole bad touch kind of thing, so if i'm not ready to hear about what else you can do, what's left to talk about? Unless you want to know everything about how the Mets are a travesty and a stain upon their ancestors, the Angels aren't much better and really fuck the Dodgers and their record?"

He might also be mimicking her tough girl stance in the shadows where he's lurking.

She ignored him, all he was saying. Yet her smile grew, head canting slightly and looking at him as if he wasn't hiding in the shadows. "I have to tell you, Stiles. I thought you'd come to me first," she admitted. "I mean, it's not fair, is it? That I chose Scott before you?"

Not instead of but before.

Money. Thatw as almost cute. How had he gotten himself into this? Whatever the reason, he was going to be a good choice. Quick thinking it would seem. Sher wished there were more she remembered from town, but he was young and he'd be helpful in her finding more betas.

That was it. He was turning back. She shifted, all teeth and glowing red eyes, and she rushed forward. Speed and power, snarling with sharp teeth as she latched on. Tasting blood and life, flooding over her tongue and almost making a small prayer that he made it, that her first beta lived.

And yes, that would be one Scott McCall, screaming like a bitch because OW!. That hurt and where had this... oh my god it was a woman! Why is there a woman biting him?!?!

He went to kick himself away, falling to the ground on his ass and going to start running to where he knew the police were, but he stumbled because it still hurt and what the hell?!

"He's slower and I was distracted by my dad." So that's not really going to hold much weight. "And maybe I just want to find out more about how to help him? But you're not interested in giving me actual answers, so maybe I'll just go back to Google. There were still some interesting websites out there. One of them featured some interesting uses for Aconite."

And now, he's just testing the waters even more. Because that's what he does. Pokes mysteries with a stick until they unfold or attempt to bite him.

"Shhhh."

She put a finger to her lips, long claw showing sharply against her skin. It was almost comical given what she had just done, and how loud he had been.

Standing over him, she stared down at him. "Go home," she said softly, eyes flashing brilliant red with the words, working make them a command. "Tomorrow, I'll see you. I'll know where to find you."

If he lived, she would find him.

"He was also less likely to taste like vinegar," she noted, smirking at him though, amused by that answer if the look on her face was any indication.

"Have you thought to ask? I try and not dump too much on him, and I'm trying to help him with what he has, and what he's become. You could ask but instead you act like this."

She moved suddenly, standing before him. "Do not threaten the woman that is alpha over your best friend," she growled, eyes flashing red. "I would have thought you were smarter than that," she added, cooing, the carrot after the stick as it were.

"Besides, if you want answers, the best way to find out is by experiencing it yourself. Then you won't just be that information guy. You'll be strong, powerful, and able to stand beside Scott rather than be in his shadow."

He shrunk a bit at those words, not liking them at all. He looked at the bite mark on his ribs, then back up at her. "Who are you?"

Gross. First of all.

"I just did ask. And you said I couldn't handle it. And he trusts me more than you, so he'll totally ask me things that might not occur to him when he's with you. And if it's the werewolf thing? I got that one already. I'm just trying to figure which kind so that when the full moon comes, I know whether or not I have to chain him somewhere or not."

"Makes me pretty smart to get you to actually admit out loud that you're his Alpha, which means that you're the one that bit him there in the woods. That blood was your fault right? it's still an unsolved case, did you actually kill someone or just maul them a little? Are you planning to teach Scott that?"

Because his best friend being a mindless killer is not okay by either of them and there's like pacts and stuff that he and Scott swore. Granted they were more thinking about zombies rather than werewolves but still.

"I don't want it. Not if it means being a mindless killer with a blood craze on."

She smiled though, blood staining her mouth. "Dear one, stop acting like a wounded bird. You are much more than that, and I'm the woman that has fixed your life."

"Stiles, you're not making life any easier on any of us. You. Scott. This town. I'm offering you a chance to be everything that Lydia and the others hve denied you. Why should their attitude make them better than you when your genetics can show them that you are so much more than they ever allowed you to be. Why let them control your life, Stiles, when I can give you the gift to be what you need to be. For yourself, and for your father."

She took another step closer. "What would it be like if he didn't have to worry about you like he does now? I knew your mother, Stiles. She was a lovely, amazing woman and life was cruel to her. What if it comes for you too?" She asked it with a frown, sounding pained by that idea. "I want to help you, and you will be helping me. I want a pack again, Stiles. This town took it from me, and my family abandoned me. You could be part of that," she said, sighing with a drop of her shoulders. "I want you to be part of that."

She shrugged. "I am. I bit him, and I made him the lacrosse player he wanted to be. I made it that he didn't have to worry a woman working so hard to take care of him. I admit I should have come to him, like I am you now, but my mind..." She shook her head. "Six years listening to your family die does something to you, Stiles. You've known death like that, you have to realize what it does to you."

Her gaze lifted to him. "I killed the insurance adjuster who was paid to cover up the truth about the fires. He let a hunter seduce him, and pay him off, and he said it was electrical. He lied about the fire and bodies for money and sex. How could I defend that and let it go? Would you have let it go if someone came for your father? Do you think Scott wouldn't use what he had for Melissa?

"You wouldn't be mindless, Stiles. You would be brilliant. You would be strong. You would have everything you have now, and so much more. As Scott does. You both have the potential to be such wonderful, amazing men and good family and pack. Especially when my brother returns to us. I want that, Stiles. I want family from those that truly understand it."

She smiled though. "I should tell you though, when you say you don't want it? With those words, I hear your heart race, just a bit. Don't and Want," she said. "Just a tiny bit. You can lie to yourself, Stiles, but not to me."

"I was actually hoping for a name and not creepy cryptic talk." And for the record, blood smiles will always be creepy.

It was the next day at school when Scott finally found his best friend and pulled him into the locker room. He hadn't even known how to explain to his friend about what happened so nope, just making sure no one is in the room before pulling Stiles into it.

"Dude, dude something freaky happened last night."

He had been in American literature when his cell phone had gone off with the news-feed alert. Added to the list of "Things Derek didn't Tell Peter" was that he had a weird news from Beacon Hills goggle alert going just to be able to make sure he knew if something was a threat to his sister that he needed to go back to.

Peter never really asked why Derek had chosen to go to the University of Arizona when he could have the pick of the Ivy Leagues along the East Coast. But it was the closest to California he could get without actually being IN California and still be in one of the top 50 English departments in the country.

But the image of the deer in the animal report caught his attention to the point where he left class right after the bell rang and went for his car. He always kept an emergency bag in the trunk, so he started on the four hour drive back to the town he hadn't seen in over six years, and as he pulled up in front of the burnt remains of his family home, he remembered why.

But that spiral was a message, and he intended to find out who it was from, and if it meant what he thought it meant.

She actually offered him her hand, smiling still. "It's Laura, and trust me. You're going to love this," she said, sounding as if she meant it. "How about I come by to see practice tomorrow. We can talk after." After he saw the differences. If he lived through the night.

It wasn't the most subtle of signs, and the honest truth was, Laura hadn't been aiming for subtle. She had been aiming for the elder missing Hale boy, but that she had gotten Derek and not Peter delighted her.

She'd prowled, waiting and watching. She'd like to think it was knowing her brother, no matter what, but it was the scent. Rich, pine and loam, and family. Hers.

Leaping down from her perch, she followed the car, watching to see where he'd go.

Derek had the feeling he was being watched, and there were only a few options as to who it would be. Most of them weren't good options, so he was tense as he walked up the stairs to the Hale House and opened the door.

The scent of the long burnt out fire hit him, making him pause and push those angry feelings deep down to the little spot in his soul that he kept them locked up in. on the second breath, he tried to focus on fresher scents of who may have been there recently to figure out what was going on.

It was the third breath that he caught the hint of whoever was watching him and he turned, his jaw tense as his eyes scanned the forest behind him.

It didn't surprise her he came here rather than the hospital, though if there was an alpha in the area, why had it not occurred it might be her? It made her wonder what their darling uncle had told Derek, and that worried her a bit. Not a lot though. There was nothing Peter might have said that she couldn't overcome.

Laura stepped out from behind a tree, clad in dark jeans and a white tee and a leather jacket. She smiled, her hair touseled and her cheeks flushed.

"Welcome home, Baby Brother. Took you long enough to come back."
